G'day friends and Family,
This week was short! Not too too much happened in the past 5 days, it was just raining pretty hard because there is a cyclone up north and we are getting some of the rain! Love it!
I totally forgot to say it in my last letter sorry-but Happy Bday, Claire!! I was thinking about Claire all day though I promise, so tell Claire happy birthday!
I loooooooooooooove that experience with Andy!! I want you to tell Andy that I had a very similar experience when I was about his age.
I was playing with a laser pen with Jack, then out of nowhere Jack took the pen out of my hands broke it, and threw it in the backyard. I was soooo annoyed and mad, so I went to dad and complained, and he told me to go into my room and pray and to ask Heavenly Father to help my feel better and to ask him to help me think of a scripture. So I went downstairs and I was having a pity party still, but as I sat there thinking, I decided that I would do it. So I got on my knees and I felt chills as I prayed, then when I finished my prayer I had a scripture come to mind: 2 Nephi 31:5 ( it talks about the Holy Ghost) I finally became aware of God's awareness of me that day. It makes me soooooo happy that Andy had that experience :) Tell him that I am proud of him.
On Friday to Saturday we exchanged with the AP's. Since there is a new exchange policy, we both went to their area for the day. I was with Elder Tutton from the UK. It was raining pretty hard all day but it was fun, there was a super cool view of the city when we were riding our bikes up the hill!
We went to this less active's house and there was an Asian lady on the porch and the first thing she said was that she doesn't have time, even though she was just sitting there all relaxed with a cup of tea. So it actually wasn't a less active's house. Then her husband came out (who was a minister for another church). He just started bashing us hard core!!
I wanted to see how Elder Tutton would handle the situation, so we just listened, then Elder Tutton said a few things, then I did, then it was like the Spirit rebuked him for saying rude things against us, so he stopped talking trash, and he flipped the conversation over to how we should prove atheists wrong.
He invited us onto his porch and he went on this 15 minute discourse on the creation and stuff. Nothing I we hadn't heard before. But then we testified of the Savior and how he should be our focus, and not on proving them wrong. Then we left eventually.
After that we saw this member family and right when we walked in, they were in the process of trying to kill a Huntsman spider! it was HUGE!! I tried to act like it wasn't a big deal but I was freaked out! haha! We had a short visit with them, then we went to another less active's house. We started teaching him the Restoration, but then he started talking about the 144000 in heaven.. hahaha I started to laugh, but he was serious.
But yeah turns out he has been visiting with the JW's. Interesting lesson. He looked like he was asleep with his eyes open.
Then we went to teach this old man who has been coming to church for years, but isn't baptized, we had a good lesson with him on the importance of prayer. He's funny because he had an objection to absolutely everything we said, but then he would agree in the end. Hopefully he decides to be baptized someday because he would be a champ!
Yesterday we went to see one of the potentials we tracted into the other day. It's a Maori and Cook Islander couple. We talked to the Maori dude on the porch, he never let us in, but he just started asking questions, and we ended up teaching him the Restoration on the porch. It was awesome! It was one of those experiences, where whenever I talked I was listening so myself talk. He was listening very intently too and he even came up with some analogies with some of the things we were teaching him! So we picked him up as a new investigator and will go by this week to teach him and his family :)
We also are going to teach M and her daughters tonight as well! Her older daughter was there the last lesson, and we were able to teach the Restoration. They were all keen to read the Book of Mormon, so hopefully it goes well tonight, we are going to commit the oldest daughter to be baptized as well, so pray that it goes well!
I love the work, I love this area, I love my companion!
oh and I love all you too ;)
Love,
Elder Beeson
